Religious Education is at the core of all that we teach at St Theresa’s. Religious Education (RE) aims to nurture the spiritual, moral, and intellectual development of every child. Its purpose is to help pupils explore the Catholic faith, understand God’s presence in their lives, and develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. RE also encourages children to learn about other world faiths, promoting respect, empathy, and understanding of diverse beliefs and cultures. Through engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences, pupils are supported to grow in faith, develop a sense of responsibility and compassion, and apply Gospel values in their daily lives. We intend for our children to leave our school with a secure knowledge of Catholic teaching, a broad awareness of other religions, a deepened spiritual understanding, and the ability to live out their faith confidently and thoughtfully in the wider world.

In Reception to Year Five, the curriculum is based on the Religious Education Directory 'To Know You More Clearly'.  

In Year Six, the curriculum is based on the 'Come and See' Scheme of Work (which is a Catholic Primary Religious Education programme) with a view for Year 6 to be teaching from the Religious Education Directory 'To Know You More Clearly' at the start of the 2027-28 academic year, as recommended by the Liverpool Archdiocese of which we are a part of. 

Religious Education in all Catholic schools must be taught for 10% of the timetable, as set out in guidance from the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales. In EYFS and Key Stage 1 this equates to 2 hours and 10 minutes per week and increases to 2 hours and 30 minutes in Key Stage 2.

Religious Education is central to the life and mission here at St Theresa's and is taught to all pupils. Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education. Any parent or carer considering withdrawal is encouraged to contact our Headteacher so that our school’s approach to Religious Education and the arrangements for withdrawal can be discussed.
