Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

The staff working with your child this year are myself (Mrs Smith) and Mrs Hesketh.  The children will also have Spanish lessons from our Spanish teacher, Isobel and computing lessons from our computing teacher, Mr Topping. Our lunchtime assistant is Mrs Davies.

Useful Information

  • The school day starts at 8.30am and ends at 3pm.

  • We have PE every Monday afternoon. Your child can come into school in clothing suitable for PE on a Monday morning and remain in it all day.

Homework:

  • Spellings: Spellings will be sent on a Friday and will be tested the following week. Now that the children are in Key Stage Two, they are tested on spellings each day. The full list of spellings will be sent on a Friday which will show the spellings that will be tested Tuesday - Friday. Spelling words are taken from the National Curriculum Spelling Appendix.

  • Times Tables: It is important that your child learns their times tables in order to support their fluency in recalling facts quickly and therefore solving mathematical problems more easily.  In school, we use a program called, 'Times Table Rockstars' to practise. If you need a copy of your child's TT Rockstars login, please let me know. Using TT Rockstars and practising times tables will greatly help your child. We will also send a times table sheet home each Friday and the children will be tested on their times tables often. We use the results of this to set your child's target times tables for homework and on TT Rockstars.

  • Reading:

This should be an ongoing task each night. The children read daily in school and we encourage this to be the case at home too. Listening to your child read as often as possible will really help their fluency and asking your child questions about what they have read will aid their comprehension. We will be sending reading books and reading records home and we would be very grateful if you could write a weekly comment about how your child has read.

If your child develops asthma or any allergies or medical conditions that we are not already aware of, please let me know as soon as possible.

At the end of the day, your child can be collected from the junior entrance/exit at the back of the school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to have a chat with me in the morning when dropping your child off or at the end of the day when collecting your child. You can also contact me on ClassDojo, on email (catherine.smith@sthelens.org.uk) or alternatively please call the office and I can call you back when I am not teaching.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Smith
